Investigations and Policy Changes

On March 13, 2025, Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy initiated an investigation into allegations concerning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) hiring practices at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He emphasized that, if the allegations are substantiated, those responsible will face swift accountability.

Additionally, Secretary Duffy rescinded two memorandums from the previous administration that incorporated social justice and environmental considerations into infrastructure funding decisions. This move aims to refocus funding decisions on traditional transportation priorities.

FAA Airspace Security Measures

Following a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Secretary Duffy announced permanent actions by the FAA to enhance airspace security over Washington, D.C. These measures are designed to bolster safety in the nation's capital.

Leadership Updates

On March 7, 2025, Adrienne Camire was appointed as the Acting Administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This appointment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within USDOT agencies.

Legal Actions Against Airlines

USDOT has taken legal action against Southwest Airlines for operating multiple chronically delayed flights, affecting thousands of passengers. The department is seeking maximum civil penalties and additional passenger relief. Similarly, Frontier Airlines was fined $650,000 for operating three chronically delayed flights.

These developments underscore USDOT's commitment to ensuring safety, accountability, and efficiency in the nation's transportation systems.
